Tender description
In 2015 alone almost 5 000 people were injured and over 1 600 killed by landmines or other explosive devices left behind by conflict. More than 60 000 000 people still live with the daily threat of injury or death. Mines hurt the poorest hardest, in the very places where people are already marginalised and excluded. The nature of the threat is changing. Landmines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) are once again being used as a weapon of war. Casualties are higher than they have been for the last decade. The UK has made clear that we will not accept this. The secretary of State for International Development announced on 4.4.2017 that the UK would triple the UK’s spend on mine action to 100 000 000 GBP over the 3 financial years to March 2020. These contracts will contribute to results incl making safe 150 km² of land, helping 800 000 people live their lives free from the threat of mines and over 100 000 people — especially children — fully understand the dangers. Lot 1 is for mine action activities in Cambodia, Zimbabwe, Angola and Somalia The contract period is 21 months with a possible extension period of up to 12 months. Broken down as follows: 24 500 000 GBP for the contract period and 12 250 000 GBP for a possible 12 months extension. Please also note that this figure will include all applicable taxes. The contract will provide services that deliver: — technical surveys and clearance of mines & explosive remnants of war (ERW), — Mine Risk Education (MRE) and community liaison visits, and — capacity development of local mine action operators and national mine action authorities. Lot 2 is for mine action activities in Burma, Laos, Lebanon, South Sudan and Vietnam The contract period is 21 months with a possible extension period of up to 12 months. Broken down as follows; 21 400 000 GBP for the contract period and 10 700 000 GBP for a possible 12 months extension.
