Tender description

The Authority is looking for suppliers for a number of track repairs at two Natural England’s (NE) National Nature Reserve (NNR) that are twenty (20) miles apart. At Lullington Heath NNR, near Eastbourne and Castle Hill NNR, near Brighton, various sections of track across the downs require repair. The two sites are in the South Downs National Park and chalk is the underlying geology. Minimising the impact of the works on the landscape and the local ecology are of paramount importance. All tracks are bridleways forming part of the public rights of way network with regular use by members of the public. The tracks should be repaired to allow safe use by all user groups throughout the year. With Works to be carried out during clement weather when the ground is sufficiently dry so that damage will not be caused by moving operational vehicles. The sites are:- Castle Hill NNR = 730 metres (approximately in length) Lullington Heath NNR = 900 metres (approximately in length) Only natural, locally sourced materials to be used due to the sensitive nature of the site. For the main length of track re-grade and compact existing material; where this is insufficient use compacted flint base with chalk and/ or MOT Type 1 limestone (as agreed with Natural England). Use natural material (as agreed with Natural England) if a sub-base is required to build up the height of the track or to fill in large holes. Lay over top 100mm of MOT type 1 chalk. Path base and surface to be laid to maximum 1:40 (2.5%) cross fall or minimum 1:50 (2%) camber and compacted using heavy vibrating roller (minimum 120 type roller recommended). Final finish has to be white in colour in order to blend in with the surrounding chalk landscape. The surface has to be suitable for pedestrian, cyclist, horse riders and vehicle use. **Mandatory Site Visit Required**
