London Borough of Sutton Parks User Surveying – Soft Market Testing Exercise

The London Borough of Sutton is seeking to survey the number of users in our public parks over 2018 and would like to know average user numbers of the borough's largest and busiest parks. Information required (in order of importance) 1)How many people use different parks each day. 2)How parks usage differs across the year. 3)How long people stay in parks for during a visit. 4)How far people travel to reach parks. The London Borough of Sutton has over 400 public open spaces, of which 2 are of Metropolitan importance, 3 of district importance and roughly 25-30 of local importance (the rest are smaller squares, commons, etc.). The scope of this survey work should cover at least the 15 busiest/largest parks. Most of these parks have fences around the perimeter, with a small number of pedestrian and bicycle entrances. Some of the parks (e.g. Cheam Park, Beddington Park) also have car access. London Borough of Sutton is inviting all interested parties to participate in a soft market testing exercise to help the Council understand which techniques can be used to count parks users, and at what cost. Sutton Council will use the information gathered during soft market testing to reflect the expertise and capacity of the current market, and inform the decision on which approach to use for parks surveys.
