Summary of the work STFC’s ISIS Neutron and Muon Facility is delivering data streaming software for the European Spallation Source as part of the UKs in-kind contribution. The developer will be responsible for developing high performance scientific data streaming systems for ESS and ISIS as part of the international team developing software for ESS Specialist role Developer Expected Contract Length Up to 2 years Latest start date Monday 9 July 2018 Maximum Day Rate £650 excluding VAT Who Speclialist Work With You will be working with the ISIS instrument control and data acquisition team (developers), the international ESS team (developers and scientists), and to report to the local project manager What Specialists Work On STFC’s ISIS Neutron and Muon Facility is delivering data streaming software for the European Spallation Source as part of the UKs in-kind contribution. The developer will be responsible for developing high performance scientific data streaming systems for ESS and ISIS as part of the international team developing software for ESS Skills & Experience • Demonstrate how you will apply your skills and expertise to the following, to develop data reduction software for the ESS • of modern C++(>C++11) development on Linux, Windows and OS X • of software development using Apache Kafka • of developing against hdf5, specifically the NeXuS format • of Python scripting • of Bash and Batch scripting • of Unit, integration and performance testing • of using Ansible or equivalent • of using CI tools (ideally Jenkins) • of using Distributed version control tools (ideally git) • of using Docker or equivalent - creating images and using docker-compose Nice to Haves • Demonstrate how you will apply your skills and expertise to the following, to develop data reduction software for the ESS • with cross platform native build generators (CMake or equivalent) • using Conan C++ package manager or equivalent • of developing and testing distributed systems • of Managing CI tools (ideally Jenkins or equivalent) • of Log and metrics monitoring and management • Understanding of data handling requirements at large scientific facilities Work Location Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Didcot, Oxfordshire, OX11 0QX Some travel to international sites including ESS (Copenhagen, Denmark and Lund, Sweden) may be required Working Arrangments Monday to Friday 8:30 start, to fit in with the international team meetings 7.5 hours day + lunch Expenses for travelling to other sites will be in line with public sector restrictions and expectations and UK Research and Innovation / STFC Policies Security Clearance Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) No. of Specialists to Evaluate 4 Cultural Fit Criteria • Demonstrate how you will apply your skills and expertise to the following, to develop data reduction software for the ESS • of developing software in a scientific environment • of developing software in an internationally distributed team Evaluation Weighting Technical competence 70% Cultural fit 10% Price 20% Questions from Suppliers No questions have been answered yet.
