New gym equipment procurement 1. Introduction GO Gateshead Sport is the leisure service brand of Gateshead Council. It operates seven leisure centres throughout Gateshead. These include: • Gateshead Leisure Centre • Blaydon Leisure Centre • Dunston Leisure Centre • Heworth Leisure Centre • Gateshead International Stadium • Birtley Leisure Centre • Birtley Swimming Centre The Council currently have a contract in place for the lease of gym equipment for five of the above sites as well as maintenance contracts in four of the sites. The current contract ends on 30 November 2018, and the Council intends to undertake a procurement exercise to appoint a supplier to provide this lease and maintenance of gym equipment beyond this date. Due to advances in technology and the way people monitor and track their physical activity, as well as evolving gym equipment, the Council are looking to review their requirements and business model with a view to procuring a contract which will be fit for purpose and offer value for money.
