Plans have been developed to increase rolling stock numbers which will consequently increase maintenance activities and birthing requirements. One of the locations for increased birthing is Fratton, where the existing sidings known colloquially as the 'banana sidings' will be modified to accommodate through services and CET facilities. A design consultant has been appointed for the GRIP 2 to 8 design development. 'Expressions of interest' are invited from experienced construction contractors in the rail industry (via the email address: anil.kukreja@gwr.com) for installation of the works based upon designs produced by others. Currently proposed Form of Contract is JCT 2016 Intermediate and ITT will be issued upon completion of GRIP 5 design Stage report. It is expected that ITT for the works requesting lump-sum fixed prices is scheduled to be issued in September/October 2018.
