Tender description

The Environment Agency needs to recognise, evaluate and control the physical, chemical and biological hazards that our employees are exposed to. These hazards include noise, vibration, and hazardous substances such as bio aerosols, dusts, fibres, fumes, solvents, gases and vapours. The outputs from occupational hygiene assessment and monitoring should inform a risk-based approach to pre-employment health screening, health surveillance and biological monitoring. Assessment and monitoring will also confirm the suitability of our COSHH assessments. Our employees are required to respond to environmental emergencies. These can fall under COMAH legislation or be minor spills, fly tipping and pollution incidents. The service should include information about workplace chemicals, biological and physical hazards as well as the appropriate control measures. The service could be provided by a 24/7 telephone advice line or by means of a site visit. Hand arm and whole body vibration assessments. Bio-aerosol, dust and air-borne particulate sampling and analysis. COSHH assessments. Expert witness service. 24 hour emergency hotline Noise assessments. Ergonomic and manual handling assessments. General advice and guidance on a range of possible occupational hygiene issues that we may encounter when undertaking our duties. Surveys of structures and site investigation. Asbestos surveys at illegal waste sites including obtaining samples. Asbestos analysis and where required the provision of analytical reports, including suitable and practicable management actions to ensure we are legally compliant. Expert witness for legal cases. Provision of asbestos awareness training. For this element of the contract different providers can bid to provide to a service to a geographically location, but our preference would be for one provider who has national coverage to provide a service countrywide.
