Tender description
An invitation is extended to Funeral Directors to an Engagement Event which will allow the opportunity to hear about the Tayside — Councils’ plans for facilitating public assistance funerals under the Burial and Cremation (Scotland) Act 2016 and the National Assistance Act 1948. The Engagement Event will provide an overview of the Council’s vision for ensuring that they are able to offer public assistance funerals which are both respectful to the deceased and sustainable for the Council. The event will also outline the supply opportunities available to Funeral Directors, the likely timescales involved, and more. Public Health Funeral. It is a statutory duty under the provisions of the National Assistance Act 1948 that Public Health Funerals are arranged by the Local Authority for individuals who have died and have no know relatives to arrange or pay for the funeral, or have relatives who are unable/unwilling to arrange the funeral. Low cost respectful funeral. The 2016 Birrell report 'Funeral Poverty in Scotland' identified that there are increasing numbers if people struggling to cope with funeral costs. In light of the increasing funeral poverty, the Tayside Councils would like to work with local funeral directors to make a standard low cost funeral package available to consumers, which would make arranging funeral costs more achievable for many people, helping to prevent people building up large amounts of debt and reduce the stress and worry caused by the situation.
