For the supply of Publication Project Co-ordinator Services for the Dublin Castle Archaeological Excavations

Archaeological excavations carried out by the National Monuments Service at Dublin Castle have provided information critical to our understanding of the development of this premier national monument and have also thrown light on the Viking settlement and early formation of the medieval walled town of Dublin. The excavations, directed by Dr. Ann Lynch and Conleth Manning were carried out between 1985 and 1987 to facilitate a major building programme for the Irish EU Presidency of 1989 and were among the largest-scale excavations carried out in Ireland up to that time. A summary account has been published in Medieval Dublin II (ed. Seán Duffy, 2001). The results of the excavations are of major national and international importance, and it is critical that they be fully published, which for a variety of reasons has not been achieved in the intervening years. Work has commenced and significant progress has been made in preparing the volume dealing with the History of Dublin Castle and the volume detailing the archaeology of the pre-Norman or Viking levels at the castle. The National Monuments Service now wishes to appoint a project co-ordinator to oversee the completion of this project and the full publication of the results.
