SOJ-DFI-T Treatment and Recycling of Mixed Waste Portable Batteries

Tender description

The States of Jersey (SoJ) , Department for Infrastructure (The Authority) recognise that hazardous wastes need to be managed in an environmentally sound manner and that if facilities are not available in Jersey that they will need to be exported to suitable recycling and disposal facilities overseas. DfI requires a Contractor: • to receive and recycle/treat mixed waste portable batteries generated in Jersey; • to comply with the requirement of the Transfrontier Shipment Regulations (TFS); • to comply with the requirement of any relevant local legislation. The term Waste Portable Batteries* is used to describe both batteries and accumulators, received from the public (householders) and businesses in Jersey which are taken to the Household Reuse and Recycling Centre (HRRC) located at La Collette-Jersey. * It does not include lead acid batteries or other batteries from electrically powered vehicles. Type of Batteries: Mixed portable batteries, which includes: Small batteries of mixed chemistries, including button batteries, and rechargeable batteries such as those used in laptops and power tools.
