Contract for the Supply on Hire of Operated Vehicles for Snowploughing and General Snow Clearance

Tender description

As a Highway Authority, the Council is responsible for ensuring that the local highway network is managed and maintained to an appropriate standard to ensure that the general public can undertake their journeys in a safe and efficient manner. The Council is responsible for providing safe highways and footways during periods of severe winter weather to enable access for the public to their employment, essential services and local amenities. The Council strives to provide an efficient winter service which will allow traffic to move safely throughout the county and keep delays to a minimum on treated roads. This is in line with the principles set out in the national code of practice 'Well Maintained Highways'. Durham County Council is looking to further enhance the winter service by the use of ploughing only contractors in areas which may not have previously been treated, which may include rural roads, housing estates, car parks, leisure centres, public buildings etc. The Service will be carried out on a call out basis, the duty manager will request the Service, which may be required on public holidays and outside of the usual working hours.
