Tralee Public Realm Action Plan

Kerry County Council, in partnership with the Heritage Council, have determined the need for a consultancy assignment to develop and deliver a Public Realm Action Plan for the most effective presentation, management and development of Tralee Town’s Public Realm. The Public Realm Action Plan will assess the quality of a selection of Tralee’s Public Realm spaces and propose a series of coordinated and costed initiatives by which they can be enhanced and promoted. In doing so, a positive impact should be created in the way in which Tralee both looks and functions, with benefits for local residents, businesses and visitors. The successful consultancy will be expected to draw together a multidisciplinary team with general expertise in urban regeneration, heritage and tourism management, economic development and with particular skills, namely urban design and interpretative planning. There will be a requirement to manage the assignment from the overall concept to final plan approval stage by the client Kerry County Council. The process will consist of site appraisals, research, consultations with stakeholders, design proposals and final report. A strong element of public participation, in accordance with the UNECE Aarhus Convention should also be emphasised throughout the plan making process – this is seen as vitally important the overall collaborative approach to urban planning in Tralee which is being championed by Kerry County Council and project partners.
