Tender description
Professional technical services for the INFOMAR Programme including, GIS Specialist, GIS Technician, Hydrographic Data Processor, Hydrographic Surveyor, Marine Geologist and Data Manager. These positions are currently unfilled and are new contracts to supplement existing staff and contractors. The INFOMAR Programme currently requires advanced GIS and digital mapping competence, to supplement the existing project team. This work will primarily involve the presentation of marine bathymetric, geophysical and geological data both in desktop GIS and via web delivery systems. However work may consist of additional relevant duties in the broader spectrum of supporting the project. The INFOMAR Programme currently requires additional GIS and digital mapping competence, to supplement the existing project team. This work will primarily involve the presentation of marine bathymetric, geophysical and geological data both in desktop GIS and via web delivery systems. However work may consist of additional relevant duties in the broader spectrum of supporting the project. The Hydrographic Data Processor (DP) is responsible for processing and presentation of all hydrographic data acquired, primarily from multibeam echosounders. The data will, where possible, be processed onboard the vessels at the time of data acquisition. Small craft operations may require this work to be undertaken in shore-based facilities. The DP will work in close co-operation with the survey personnel. He/she will work in accordance with the procedures and protocols established by the INFOMAR project team. The DP will prepare, merge, edit and ‘clean’ the bathymetric and positioning data gathered during acquisition and produce bathymetric and backscatter images. This data will then be ready for quality control, interpretation and further charting processes. The Hydrographic Surveyor will be involved in geophysical and hydrographic data acquisition, quality control and reporting. The position will require extensive offshore work as part of INFOMAR survey operations. At such times they will be responsible for the acquisition and quality control of data from multibeam echosounders, related positioning systems, sub-bottom profilers and ancillary systems. Operations will be conducted in a systematic manner and documented to enable efficient data processing and reporting follow-up. He/she will work closely with the Party Chief to optimise survey strategies and methods. The Marine Geologist will be involved in geological data compilation, interpretation and reporting across a range of projects; to include shallow and deepwater geomorphology, quaternary geology, marine minerals and marine aggregates. The position may require working offshore as part of INFOMAR survey operations. The INFOMAR Programme seeks to recruit an experienced data manager. INFOMAR acquires up to 15 Terabytes (TB) of data/storage per year and currently holds over 80 TB of marine survey data acquired in Irish waters since the year 2000.
