Tender description

This tender is for the supply of bespoke glassware with glass lids in which the Museum will store natural history specimens in a variety of preserving fluids. Jars range in size from 50 mm x 50 mm to 1000 mm x 200 mm and in exceptional circumstances (due to the specimen size) even larger jars may be required. The Natural History Museum (NHM) is one of the world’s leading museums, internationally recognised for its dual role as a centre of excellence in scientific research and as a leader in the presentation of natural history through exhibitions, public programmes, publications and the web. The Museum is home to a collection of approximately 80 000 000 life and earth specimens across five main collections: botany, entomology, zoology, mineralogy and paleontology. Many of the collections have great historical and scientific value and are used for both public engagement and research. The Life Sciences collection makes up the majority of the Museum’s collection and is heavily used by staff, visiting researchers and students from all parts of the globe. We wish to establish a formal agreement with 2 or 3 suppliers to provide us with bespoke glassware for our wet preserved collections. The NHM has a rolling programme of replacing existing jars which are damaged and purchasing new jars for incoming material. We tend to purchase one large order at the beginning of our financial year (April or May). Further smaller orders may be placed during the year.
