Tender description

Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the largest Associate Teaching Hospitals, providing acute care for over 700 000 people from across 2 main sites; Queens and King George Hospitals, as well as peripheral sites at Barking and Ilford. Pathology operates across the two sites at Queen’s Hospital, Romford and King George Hospital, Goodmayes. Cellular Pathology incorporating Neuropathology operates from the Queen’s Hospital site, providing support to the neurosciences and neurosurgery team by the way of intraoperative diagnosis and routine neuropathology including muscle and nerve biopsies. The reporting element of neuropathology has until recently been provided by a single full-time Neuropathologist supported by a visiting Neuropathologist who comes from another department to provide leave cover and quality assurance reviews. Pending successful recruitment to replace the Neuropathologist, the Trust seeks to outsource the reporting element of the service. The procurement is for the provision of Neuropathology Reporting Service. Any interested party must either be UKAS accredited (and thus conform to ISO 15189 Medical Laboratory Standards) or have equivalent accreditation. The reporting Neuropathology consultants must be on the specialist register of the United Kingdom General Medical Council with fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists (RCPath) or its equivalent. We would expect evidence of satisfactory participation in relevant diagnostic External Quality Assurance schemes (or similar) by the reporting Neuropathologists. Adherence to agreed Turn-Around-Times for completion of reports will be monitored internally.
