Application Packaging for Windows 10

Why the Work is Being Done Department for Transport is currently planning the deployment of Windows 10 to all staff within at the central department (not the DfT agencies). The first area to be migrated to Windows 10 is scheduled for June / July 2018 for circa 400 people. Problem to Be Solved The current Windows 10 platform includes circa 30 applications which have already been packaged. There is now a requirement to package the business applications. The approach will be to package applications based on the rollout schedule. The department may have a future requirement to pro-actively manage the application estate by creating a road-map for future application based on the application release lifecycle Who Are the Users The applications may be used by any person within the Department of Transport. Application deployment will be initially via SCCM (eventually moving to Intune) based on Active Directory Group Membership. Early Market Engagement N/A Work Already Done The Department for Transport has been working with Microsoft to create a Windows 10 baselined build which is compliant to NCSC guidelines. This includes a number of applications contained within the baselined build (such as anti-virus and VPN software). The Department has started to perform an assessment of applications used by the business. The sequencing of application packaging will be aligned to the rollout schedule. Existing Team The supplier will be working with the Digital Service team within the Department for Transport in London. The team will consist of: • Project Manager • Live Services resources (from Infrastructure and desktop teams) • Technical Leads (Architecture & Programme) • Business Units (where appropriate) Current Phase Not started Work Location Great Minster House, 33 Horseferry Road, London SW1P 4DR Working Arrangments The Department for Transport is looking for a supplier that is able to work to fixed costs and outcome based requirements. The core deliverable is to package the pre-defined set of applications to work on the baseline Windows 10 platform, deployment is via the existing SCCM platform. Dependant on the application, the following two component maybe required: 1. Application Discovery 2. Application User Acceptance Testing Security Clearance The minimum requirement is that the supplier’s staff should have current Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance. Our preference would be that staff have SC clearance if possible.
