NERC has a requirement for the supply of pressure hulls for the BRIDGES (Bringing together Industry for the Development of Glider Environment) project. By purchasing the Pressure Hulls the Customer (NERC) will be able to carry out the work required to complete the BRIDGES project. These gliders, expected to be available to the market by 2020, will have new and enhanced sensing capabilities as well as providing unique and exciting opportunities for the monitoring of oceanographic features in the deep sea. Gliders have a wide range of use for both oceanographic research and industry data collection. The capability of these new gliders to reach at least 75% of the ocean will open up new possibilities for science and industry. These include monitoring submarine biodiversity and conducting environmental impact assessments for potential seabed mining and exploration.
