Who Speclialist Work With The specialist will support the Head of Digital Delivery to set up the Engineering Practice (including Development, DevOps/SRE, Test/QA, Infrastructure and Technical Leadership). There is no current suitable internal resource with the required skills. They will work with counterparts in DWP to build cross-community ways of working, support organisation’s strategy to increase digital capability and assure delivery of digital services and provide technical direction and coaching. What Specialists Work On 1. Support the Head of Digital Delivery to set up and lead the Engineering Practice (including Development, DevOps/SRE, Test/QA, Infrastructure and Technical Leadership). 2. Work with counterparts in DWP to build cross-community ways of working, support organisation’s strategy to increase digital capability and assure delivery of digital services and provide technical direction and coaching. 3.Work and assist in setting contemporary engineering standards and working practices. 4. Be a technologist with extensive & deep experience of building complex systems and services using different delivery methodologies. 5. Undertake effective knowledge transfer to permanent position when filled Where the Work Takes Place Caxton House London with significant travel to Newcastle and Manchester Early Market Engagement Working Arrangements Onsite 5 days a week Significant amount of travel between the three locations of London, Newcastle and Manchester. Maximum of £1,000 per week limit on expenses, which must be pre-approved and adhere to DWP Expenses Policy. Work Location Caxton House London with significant travel to Newcastle and Manchester Security Clearance Baseline Personnel Security Standard Additional T&Cs Skills & Experience Be a technologist with extensive & deep experience of building complex systems and services using different delivery methodologies. Have extensive experience of leading and continuously improving large Software Engineering Work and assist in setting contemporary engineering standards and working practices. Have extensive and deep experience in full stack system development. Have extensive and deep experience in Architecture and Solutions design Have extensive and deep experience in Production Operations and “3rd level” Operational Support. Have a good practical working knowledge of a broad range of technologies (open source and proprietary) used over the last 20 years. Have extensive experience of leading and continuously improving large Software Engineering Be able to communicate effectively with and understand developers, testers and architects, with ability to build credible relationships at senior levels within a complex organisation. Be able to deliver products within specific time-scales and working alongside multiple senior stakeholders. Be able to work with other Service Practice Leads and Heads of Practice to build cross-community ways of working to support delivery priorities and effectively deliver common goals. Have the ability to build credible relationships at senior levels within a complex organisation. Undertake effective transfer knowledge to permanent position when filled Be able to work with other Service Practice Leads and Heads of Practice to build cross-community ways of working to support delivery priorities and effectively deliver common goals. Extensive development experience, in open source and legacy technologies across a range of products, developing on cloud-based environments. Experience of using version control systems such as Git and Jenkins, open source technologies such as Java, Javascript, Node.js, SQL and non SQL databases such as Postgres, MySQL and MongoDB. Experience of using test-driven development tools such as JUnit or Jasmine. Define service outcomes offered and what excellence looks like. Assure delivery of digital services and provide technical direction and coaching. Champion technical and best practice evolution; finding, testing, agreeing and adopting emerging technologies, principles and processes to drive continuous improvement. Work with DWP Practice Leads to understand DWP’s strategy, including best practices, tooling, pan-government standards and innovation across sectors to continuously improve the services offered by BPDTS Deploy people, tools, software, hardware and services to ensure capability and solutions offered by the service practice align with customer need.
