Tender description

You are invited to tender for a single-cylinder optical research engine. An optically accessible research engine is a single-cylinder engine with a transparent cylinder liner (e.g. fused silica) and Bowditch piston with transparent window. The University wishes to purchase an optically accessible research engine is a single-cylinder engine with a transparent cylinder liner (e.g. fused silica) and Bowditch piston with transparent window. The transparent cylinder and piston (i.e. “optically accessible”) allows for application of qualitative and quantitative non-intrusive laser diagnostic techniques to study in-cylinder flow, injection, mixing, ignition, combustion and pollutant formation. Diagnostic techniques that will be applied in this engine will be: particle image velocimetry, laser induced fluorescence, thermographic phosphorescence, coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy, chemiluminescence imaging, phase Doppler interferometry, structured laser illumination planar imaging, as well as other passive imaging techniques. All glass components will be made of UV grade fused silica (sapphire is not an option because it interferes with fluorescence imaging). This engine will be a spray-guided direct-injection petrol engine.
