Tender description

Prior to April 2017, Camden Apprenticeships started approximately 40 apprentices in the Council each year. With the introduction of the apprenticeship levy and public sector apprenticeship targets the Council will increase its apprenticeship starts up to an estimated 75 in 2017/18. Prior to April 2017, Camden Apprenticeships started approximately 40 apprentices in the Council each year. With the introduction of the apprenticeship levy and public sector apprenticeship targets the Council will increase its apprenticeship starts up to an estimated 75 in 2017/18. These starts will be made up of apprenticeships for existing staff as well as people newly recruited to the Council. As well as managing the apprenticeship levy account for Camden council, Camden Apprenticeships manages the levy funds paid by community schools in Camden adding a further estimated 20 apprenticeship starts per year. It is vital for apprenticeships in Camden and in Camden’s community schools to be as inclusive as possible and for the apprenticeship training provided to be highly supportive to both learners and managers wherever required. We anticipate that many members of staff being trained as apprentices will not have been in formal training for a long time and will need support to adjust. In particular we are keen to receive good support with functional skills training. Camden is a timewise Council which means we are committed to offering flexible work time arrangements including part time employment. We are keen to engage with providers that can support these working arrangements by offering flexibility in the duration and hours of training. Camden is responsible for ensuring there are development opportunities for residents and that no resident gets left behind. This means the Council’s recruitment of new apprentices has a strong local focus, providing opportunities almost entirely for residents that live in the borough. We are keen to engage with providers that are able to train people locally, where possible minimising difficult journeys to training centres. We are keen to ensure all residents in Camden can access apprenticeships where possible and that no unnecessary barriers are put in place to access training.
