Tender description

This is an Award Notice. The UKATC has to deliver the MOONS cryo-vacuum system which requires 3-off cold-heads and 3-off compressors for which ESO has mandated the use of specific equipment from Leybold Oerlikon. MOONS is designed to operate at infra-red wavelengths and hence it uses detectors that are sensitive to infra-red light and are operated at cryogenic temperatures. This means that the detectors, and the environment around the detectors, must be cooled to 120K to limit the background radiation seen. To achieve this MOONS requires re-fridgeration plant in the form of 3-off cold-heads, each of which needs a flow of Liquid He at high pressure from an associated compressor. Based on the needs of maintenance and inter-operability with existing equipment, ESO has mandated that only a specific type of cold head and compressor can be used at the telescope, namely, Cold Head: Coolpower 10 MD, with a rotating flange DN 160 CF-R from Leybold Oerlikon; Compressor: Coolpack 6000H HV MD from Leybold Oerlikon.
