Summary of the work Lead the user research work to transition Ethnicity facts and figures from public beta on GOV.UK to live. There is also potential to support the policy work on ‘explaining or changing’ the disparities that our data uncovers. This role falls outside IR35. Specialist role User researcher Expected Contract Length 6 months Latest start date Monday 21 May 2018 Maximum Day Rate £650 including travel and expenses (excluding VAT) Who Speclialist Work With The Race Disparity Unit is a multi-disciplinary team covering policy, data and digital work streams. As well as policy officials, statisticians, analysts, and social researchers, the digital team includes developers, user researcher, delivery manager, content designers, product manager and service manager - this will change to reflect priorities and needs over time. We all work together using the One Team Government principles and the government design principles. What Specialists Work On Work in an agile, multi-disciplinary team, primarily with front-end designer, developer(s), product manager and service manager. Help us evolve the publishing tool and improve the website so that we continue to meet the needs of our users. Overall responsibility for the user research roadmap and planning - including participant recruitment, lab booking, interviews, analysis and presentation of findings. Skills & Experience • Proven experience using a variety of techniques to recruit participants to meet a specific brief • Proven skills autonomously planning and running user research sessions • Proven experience facilitating group analysis of user research session output • Proven skills in web analytics and surveys to understand user behaviours and measure performance • Proven experience of working closely with other team members on rapid prototyping • Proven experience prioritising user needs with product manager and team • Proven experience identifying usability and accessibility issues • Proven experience of working on agile projects as part of a multidisciplinary team, with regular user research, as outlined in the Government Service Design Manual and Digital Service Standard • Experienced in meeting the Government’s Digital Service Standards and understanding of how user researchers should follow best practice Nice to Haves • Experience of recruiting participants with accessibility needs • Experience researching how users access and use data and statistics • Experience collaborating on stakeholder and engagement plans and events • Experience of working with policy teams • Experience of working to the One Team Government principles Work Location 1 Horseguards Road, London SW1A 2HQ Working Arrangments Our team is based in Horse Guards. Occasional remote working is accepted, but will primarily be co-located onsite with the existing team. We work Mon-Fri with usual office hours. Travel to user research sessions at various London locations is expected. We will cover standard Cabinet Office travel expenses for any user research sessions held outside London. Security Clearance CTC is required to work at 1 Horse Guards. Minimum of baseline clearance (BPSS) is required for the work itself. If the successful specialist needs to be put through CTC clearance, we will do this. The rate includes travel and expenses within London. We will cover standard Cabinet Office travel expenses for any user research sessions held outside London.
