Tyres and Batteries PRI Enforcement – Technical Support

A Producer Responsibility Initiative (PRI) for the management of tyres is now in operation in Ireland. The EPA is seeking to award a contract for an external resource to carry out nationwide enforcement of tyre producer obligations on behalf of the EPA. Enforcement activities will include office based work (generating correspondence, using phone and email for communication) and audits at tyre producer business premises (to investigate, advise and direct on obligations and compliance). The overall objective is to achieve compliance among tyre producers with the tyres and batteries regulations. In addition to dealing with organisations that are known to have tyre producer obligations, the contractor will also be required to follow up and investigate intelligence about ‘free rider’ tyre producers. These are producers that are operating outside of the tyres PRI and who are avoiding their obligations.
