Tender description

Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council (BMBC) is undertaking a Market Consultation Exercise to provide advance notification and seek supply chain information prior to tendering for Vehicle Telematics and in-cab technology. This is not a call for tenders or a pre-qualification exercise. It is a market consultation exercise to open a dialogue with the supply chain prior to commencing a formal procurement process. Since 2008, BMBC have used telematics systems as an established way to maximise operational efficiency for large fleets of vehicles. Telematics systems are now an integral part of the council’s drive for efficiency helping to ensure optimum fleet usage and minimising avoidable costs. Currently BMBC manages c400 vehicles with fitted telematics equipment, including general purpose and specialist vehicles. The fleet comprises: cars, vans (LCVs), grounds maintenance equipment, gritter vehicles, refuse collection vehicles and other specialist vehicles. Through the re-procurement of vehicle telematics, the Council is looking to achieve the following objectives: — improve risk management and reduce the accident and incident rate across the fleet, — maximise the efficiency of the fleet and optimise service delivery, and — improve driver behaviour and reduce associated consequential costs.
