Tender description

The tender has been divided into 2 Lots. Lot 1 — The Community Ophthalmology service is a community based provision of triage, assessment, treatment and management of ophthalmology conditions. The Ophthalmology services are for service users suffering from a range of minor eye conditions as listed in the specification. The service will be provided from one location within each borough, although patients will be able to access any services location irrespective of their registered GP. Lot 2 — The aim of the Low Vision service is to allow people with sight loss, often elderly patients, disabled and the young to access services easily and nearer to home. Both of the services are for service users registered in the 3 boroughs. The service is to be provided via a hub and spoke model across BHR the 3 CCGs. The services to be included in Lot 1 is a community based provision of triage, assessment, treatment and management of ophthalmic conditions as listed in the specification. The service will be provided from one location within each borough, although patients will be able to access any services location irrespective of their registered GP. The community service will address the needs of patients and provide access to services in a timely manner, thus avoiding appointments at the local hospital. As such the service will be responsive in offering direct access and routine appointments depending on eye condition. The services to be included in lot 2 are for low vision services for service users registered in the 3 boroughs. The service is to be provided via a hub and spoke model across BHR. The service supports the delivery of low vision assessments for residents of Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge who are still experiencing sight problems even after having an eye test and wearing the right contact lenses or glasses. At the end of the assessment service users will be issued with a low vision aid that best meets their need and provided with the support/training on how to use the aid. Along with the emotional support needed to cope with their eye condition. The service user may also be offered advice about using magnification, task lighting, contrast and managing glare. With referrals commencing Mid – late November 2018.
