TP17/048 - Consultancy Services for Ightham Property Flood Resilience Scheme

Ightham is a village in Kent near Borough Green in the district of Tonbridge and Malling (TMBC). The village lies on the Busty Stream, an ordinary watercourse that is culverted in a number of locations. Following an extreme rainfall event on 25 June 2016 several properties experienced significant flooding. Due to the rainfall intensity, the flow in the Busty Stream reached a level that exceeded its capacity and local fields were saturated causing runoff which resulted in 17 properties flooding. As a result of these events, Kent County Council (KCC), the Lead Local Flood Authority, has been allocated funds through the Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Grant in Aid (FCERM GiA) to provide a Property Flood Resilience (PFR) scheme. This scheme is to protect the most vulnerable properties in Ightham. The Environment Agency (EA) have allocated grant money for the Ightham PFR Scheme in their Medium-Term Plan for the financial year 2018/2019. However, this is only an allocation and an Outline Business Case (using the 5-case business model) will be needed for approval by the EA before any money can be drawn down.
