Birmingham Airport is to review its Landside bussing operations with a view to achieving the following:-. — Lower operational costs and significantly reduced non-availability of vehicles due to planned and un-planned maintenance. — Improve air quality and reduce CO2 emissions. — Improve the reliability of vehicles. — Provide a better driving experience for bus drivers through the use of ergonomic seating and reduced vibration which will contribute to a better customer experience. — The development of a strong business case, encapsulating whole life cost analysis, for migration to an alternative technology. — The accessing of grants from the EU and UK Government to enhance the business case. — Future proofing the Airport through the acquisition of a solution which is ‘scaleable’ and will accommodate future growth at the Airport, continue to be supported in a cost efficient manner, capable of on-going compliance with future legislation and can embrace improvements in technology. The Airport will select and work with a partner to implement a solution which achieves the objectives detailed above. The partner will be selected following a procurement process where a demonstration of the following is required: — An understanding of the Airport’s current bussing operation. — A future vision for the bussing operation which will set out improvements to the service which are specific, achievable and deliver tangible benefits to the Airport. — A solution which achieves the aims and objectives of the Airport from commercial, operational, customer service and environmental perspectives. — A ‘turnkey’ solution, i.e. the selected partner will be expected to provide all assets, infrastructure and services associated with the delivery of the project and its on-going support throughout the life of the solution. — A strong business case for the implementation of the solution is provided. — The solution and associated business case will be developed through an in-depth analysis of the Airport’s requirements (short, medium and long term), engagement with stakeholders an assessment of risks and opportunities etc. Both the solution and the business case shall be underwritten by the selected partner. — A product road-map which will enable the Airport to exploit opportunities for enhancements to the solution. — That the selected partner can manage the process for applying, securing and delivering grants which will may be available from a number of sources. — That all infrastructure and other equipment necessary to support the utilisation of electric / hybrid buses is ‘open’ / industry standard and is recognised as such e.g. Oppcharge agreement.
