Weed-clearance services

Tender description

Leicester City Council requires weed control services to be provided on all Authority owned or controlled highways. The area to be covered can be seen in Appendix C, which contains a map of the wards that make up Leicester City. The total distance covered is approximately 1 500 kilometres which includes both sides of the highway and its accompanying pathways etc. Further sites may be added during the term of the contract. The weed control programme normally takes place three times a year (in Spring, Summer and Autumn) and each seasonal spray to last no more than five weeks. The Authority reserves the right, at its own discretion and via a Change Control Note, to amend the Contract for biannual weed treatment taking place in spring and summer only. The systems selected by the Supplier to treat weeds shall be part of a long-term strategy that makes effective use of the means available and ensures weed growth will not build up a tolerance to any particular system. All footways, footpaths and channels (kerbs) of its adopted highways to be weed treated. Treatment will take place either two or three times per year, depending on budget. For a twice per year spray, the sprays would take place in spring and summer. For a three times per year spray, sprays would take place in the spring, summer and autumn, as is the case with the existing contract.
