Proposed Preparation and Recoating of Structural Steelwork and all and any specified associated works at Southport Pier

Southport Pier is 1,108 metres in length and is the second longest pier in the UK.. The Pier is constructed over land for roughly 50% of its length and over the beach and sea for the remainder. For this project the pier consistes of 63 bays( sections of the pier between the rows of supporting columns) and each bay is approx. 15.25m long. The Pier Superstructure comprising all of the supporting columns, cross bracings and all of the lattice girders and diaphragms that support the pier timber deck will be prepared and recoated with the specified paint system. This work includes the provision of all scaffolding, access and temporary works arrangements necessary .This project does not include the Pier Pavilion and its separate supporting structure, nor does it include steelwork above the pier deck, including railings and lighting columns. Construction works are due to commence in April 2017 and be carried out in 2 distinct phases. Phase 1 ,which includes Bays 40 to 68 inclusive which are over beach/sea; together with Bays 1,3 & 4 respectively, which are over Land, are envisaged to be carried out between Monday 17th April 2017 and Friday 24th November 2017. No work will be carried out in repect of this contract between the dates 25th November 2017 and Sunday 11th March 2018.The site compound will be required to be removed during this period and restablished in time for the commencement of Phase 2 Phase 2 ,which includes Bays 5 to 33 inclusive which are over Land; together with Bays 35 to 39, which are over the Marine Lake, are envisaged to be carried out between Monday 12th March 2018 and Friday 24th August 2018.
