Tender description

The City of Edinburgh Council has a requirement for a property damage and business interruption policy for Edinburgh Trams Ltd. The City of Edinburgh Council intends to put a contact in place for a contract for Edinburgh Trams Ltd's (ETL) Property Damage/Business Interruption insurance. Edinburgh Trams Ltd is the designated operator of the tramway in Edinburgh. ETL is wholly owned by the City of Edinburgh Council (CEC) and is operated as an arms-length company. It is part of the Transport for Edinburgh group and has a 15 year Operating Agreement with CEC. Construction of the tramway system began in 2008 and was completed in late 2013. Fare paying revenue services commenced on 31.5.2014. Since then the company has operated a highly successful frequent tram service operating 7 days a week from 5:00 am till midnight from Edinburgh Airport to York Place via Haymarket and Princes Street. Services operate every 8-10 minutes Monday to Saturday and every 12-15 minutes on a Sunday. The first tram departs at 0529 from York Place and 0615 from Edinburgh Airport. The last full route service from York Place is at 2308 and 2245 from Edinburgh Airport. The route from Edinburgh Airport to York Place is 14km (8.5 mile) long. The Council intends to award a contract for delivery of the service for an initial period from 31.5.2017 to 30.5.2020. Subject to satisfactory performance, potential future requirements and the agreement of the successful Contractor, the Council may wish to extend delivery of the contract for an additional period of up to two years.
