Tender description
He Authority's WGCC physiological research programme has a requirement to understand the propensity of women to stress fractures and impaired bone health through occupational exposure. Bone is a complex tissue, and appropriate assessment of its strength requires measurement of architecture and porosity of bone tissue at the microscopic level, differentiating between different types (spongy and dense) of bone at clinically relevant sites (i.e. tibia or shin bone). Therefore, there is a requirement for a solution that provides appropriate bone imaging capability in accordance with the detailed requirements below. The MOD's Women in Ground Close Combat physiological research programme has a requirement to understand the propensity of women to stress fractures and impaired bone health through occupational exposure. Bone is a complex tissue, and appropriate assessment of its strength requires measurement of architecture and porosity of bone tissue at the microscopic level, differentiating between different types (spongy and dense) of bone at clinically relevant sites (i.e. tibia or shin bone). Therefore there is a requirement for a solution that provides appropriate bone imaging capability to fulfil the research requirements of the WGCC programme in accordance with the specifications set below. A solution is required to meet the requirement, delivering the following outputs: 3.1 Meets the appropriate European product safety Directives. 3.2 Image and analyse in vivo i.e. on a live human being within a reasonable timeframe (maximum 5 minutes per scan). 3.3 Image and analyse from peripheral weight bearing (tibia, ultra- and diaphyseal tibial) and non-weight bearing (radius) sites. 3.4 Image and analyse bone density and structure. 3.5 Image and analyse cortical and trabecular compartments. 3.6 Image and analyse bone microarchitecture. 3.7 Image and analyse tabecular thickness, number and separation. 3.8 Provide finite element modelling. 3.9 The solution is to enable the extraction of HR-pQCT image data and information for the purposes of analysis. 4. Associated Services. 4.1 Additionally to the above, there is a requirement for the Contractor to ensure that the Outputs defined above can be met with minimum disruption over the duration of the contract and its potential option years. This will include the maintenance, repair and repair of both hardware and software components. 4.2 There is a requirement for the Contractor to provide appropriate, comprehensive and timely training and training material to the Authority for up to 4 people upon the Full Operating Capability (FOC) of the solution and then on request thereafter. 5. Delivery. 5.1 The solution is to be at FOC with at Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, UK by no later than 28.4.2017. 5.2 The Authority may require, during the contract to relocate the solution to another site and may require the Contractor's support in this.
