Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service issues this Prior Information Notice on behalf of the Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA) UK Research and Development. The UK Research and Development has been established to support the UK Fire Services in undertaking market research into suppliers and products available in the market for operational equipment and services. Their aim is to improve market awareness in the sector and thereby reduce the resources, cost and time spent on market research as an overall activity across the UK Fire sector. The UK Research and Development Function has determined to research ranges of equipment that is utilised in rescue activities, primarily for extrication of persons/things/animals trapped during road traffic collisions that meet the requirements of BS EN 13205:2016 or equivalent. The purpose of this Prior Information Notice is to invite suppliers to attend product assessment days in March 2017 at the Fire Service College, Gloucestershire. UK Research and Development will undertake a series of controlled, repeatable and measureable exercises to assess identified ranges of equipment. A report will be published to all participating suppliers. The report will subsequently be made available Fire and Rescue Services in the UK for their information. The UK Research and Development will undertake further periodic assessments and update the initial report in future for technical refresh to include new products or product enhancements. Suppliers will be required to contribute towards the cost of the assessments.
