Tender description

The University of Cambridge, Department of Physics provides modern laboratory accommodation and state of art research facilities. The closed-cycle cryogen re-condensing SQUID-VSM system with a magnetic moment sensitivity of 10-8 emu. The system should include customized modules that will enable the application of multiple external fields, including: magnetic, electric, mechanical, thermal, and optical. The system should therefore consist of the following modules that can be easily and rapidly interchanged: (1) furnace/oven for sensitive magnetometry measurements at controlled temperatures from 300 K to 1 000 K; (2) high-pressure cell for pressure-magnetism coupled measurements capable of applying up to 1.3 GPa to samples with a diameter up to 2.2 mm; (3) magneto-optical probe with a monochromatic light source with wavelengths in the 360 nm to 845 nm range; (4) electronic transport probe with 5-axis samples holder for AC resistance measurements. The system will be housed in the new multidisciplinary Maxwell Centre on the West Cambridge site. The equipment is intended to be multi-user with a wide range of functionalities to enable a broad user base from experienced researchers to new graduate students.
