1798/340/MY/AMRC/17 Reciprocating Broaching Units The University of Sheffield wishes to invite tenders for Reciprocating Broaching Units (up to 3) on behalf of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, Castings Group at Catcliffe, South Yorkshire. Scope of Requirement The supply, installation and commissioning of a reciprocating broaching units for converting the rotary action of a lathe's driver lower turret to an axial reciprocating action for the single-point broaching of a spline tooth or other similar feature. This equipment will be for use in manufacturing research, particularly of gear and transmission components for the aerospace, automotive and energy industries. The University seeks to purchase reciprocating broaching units that will support the AMRC's research into gear cutting technologies for multifunctional machine tools. AMRC's focus is on demonstrating opportunities for improved quality and accuracy in manufacture using single part setup for multiple operations. The reciprocating broaching units should enable machining of internal and external splines in the same machine and setup as turning, milling and gear machining processes. The units may also be utilised in the machining of gear teeth, keyways, fir-tree slots and other similar features.
