LDNPA - design and manufacture two boats for Coniston Water and Ullswater for Lake Rangers and volunteers who work on the lakes

The Lake District National Park Authority Lake Rangers and volunteers educate lake users and enforce the byelaws on Coniston Water and Ullswater. The Authority is seeking to procure two new patrol boats for the Lake Rangers and volunteers so they can undertake this work. To enable and encourage different users of the lakes to safely enjoy Coniston Water and Ullswater we have a team of four Lake Rangers and thirty two volunteers. They assist, advise, educate and encourage the general public to comply with the byelaws. The Lake Ranger Team’s policy still remains to achieve compliance with the byelaws through education. However there are still a minority of boat users who continue to speed on the lakes and not abide by other byelaws on the lakes. To be able to effectively educate boat users we require a vessel on Coniston Water and Ullswater. These two boats will patrol the lake to monitor and manage byelaw compliance. We require the two boats to patrol Coniston Water and Ullswater and when required enforce the byelaws on each lake. Each vessel will need to carry a minimum of two crew members and at times have more aboard. They will need to carry necessary kit and equipment to safely patrol the lakes and take enforcement action when required. The majority of the time the boats will need to travel on the water at speeds below the 10mph speed limits on the lakes and when required be able to travel in excess of these speeds to catch speeding offenders and other vessels which break any byelaws.
