WP3392 - Additional Transitional Beds for Adults with Dementia and Nursing Needs

The Authority is seeking to block purchase up to 3 nursing beds for adults with dementia (moderate to advanced dementia) for a period of 10 weeks and the ability to spot purchase a further 2 nursing beds for adults with dementia for the same period at no guaranteed charge to relieve Winter Pressures. Homes need to be registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to deliver nursing care with a specialism in dementia. The Council wish to purchase beds from up to two nursing home providers whose overall rating has not been rated as inadequate by CQC and who are located within the borough of Walsall or within a 5 mile radius of Walsall. The service should commence Monday 18 December 2017. These beds will support the Councils existing transitional beds that health and social care staff will use to promote the health, wellbeing and independence of adults with dementia; to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions and delayed hospital discharges.
