Contract Value 150 000 including VAT. The primary objective of this project is to examine how to engage disadvantaged communities in physical activity interventions to promote healthy behaviours using ideas from behavioural science research. This will be done through 2 phases. The first phase will involve a review of international literature on the application of behavioural science to increasing participation in sport and physical activity. The second phase will involve applying learning from the review to identify and test interventions in real world settings. The literature review will seek as thoroughly as possible to include a wide range of interventions using behavioural science to increase participation in sport and physical activity particularly among disadvantaged groups. The primary research questions to be addressed include: 1— Is there evidence for the effectiveness of behaviourally informed interventions? 2— Which interventions have supporting evidence? 3— Which interventions have the strongest effect size? 4— Are there behaviourally informed interventions in other domains (smoking, dieting, alcohol consumption, etc.) that might contain lessons for how to enhance physical activity behaviours in disadvantaged communities? 5— Are there lessons to be learned about the best methods for testing and evaluating interventions? 6— What are the implications for testing interventions in Ireland?
