Customer: Inishowen Basking Shark Study Group Request for Tender (RFT) for the development and delivery of a ‘Coastal Explorers’ Training Program and Sea Science Traineeship INTRODUCTION The IBSSG was founded in 2009 to raise awareness, appreciation and understanding of the basking shark and the wider marine environment. The group undertakes pioneering research studies, community education programs and media productions based around the basking shark populations off the coastline of Inishowen. Key to the groups work is developing and sustaining a collaborative working relationship with stakeholders from the community, research and maritime industry. The proposed training program aims to build on the education and community projects undertaken by the group to date. The awardee will develop and deliver an innovative training program that will provide young people (aged 14-17) in Inishowen with enhanced skills and awareness of local maritime heritage and the marine environment. The scientific research conducted by the IBSSG be made relevant and accessible to young people and the wider community. The awardee will work in partnership with the IBSSG and its community, conservation and academic partners in the design and delivery of the training program. 1. SCOPE OF WORK/SPECIFICATION/OUTPUTS 1.1 The Inishowen Basking Shark Study Group seeks tenders from suitably qualified organisations/individuals to undertake the design and delivery of the ‘Inishowen Coastal Explorers Program’ and ‘Sea Science Traineeship’ for 30 young people aged 14 – 17 in Inishowen. 1.2 The anticipated campaign period for this work will be February (or on appointment) until 31st of August 2017. 1.3 20 young people will have the opportunity to complete the ‘Coastal Explorers’ training program which will combine ‘classroom’ based sessions with practical afloat fieldwork onboard a variety of vessels at sea using real scientific equipment and methods. 10 young people will have the opportunity to complete an intensive ‘Sea Science
