Summary of the work Networks & Telecoms EUC Server operating systems [Wintel, Unix etc] DataBases Virtualisation Storage & Backup Corporate Enterprise application platform support And associated supporting services Expected Contract Length 2 years Latest start date 01/04/2017 Why the Work is Being Done The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is looking to secure services to provide temporary IT Infrastructure support during a period of parallel running of legacy and transformed IT services until such time as parallel running ceases (all services in Business as Usual (BAU) support) Problem to Be Solved The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is looking to secure services to provide temporary IT Infrastructure support during a period of parallel running of legacy and transformed IT services until such time as parallel running ceases (all services in Business as Usual (BAU) support) Who Are the Users ONS Business users need to be able to access systems and services during a period of transformation of the IT supporting these systems and services so that they can continue to provide outputs to Central Government, key Stakeholders and the general public Existing Team The existing team comprises IT technical specialists across the range of Infrastructure supported by the ONS Current Phase Not applicable Skills & Experience • Support Cisco switches, Firewalls (Checkpoint, Juniper, Cisco) Bluecoat proxy, VOIP. PKI LAN/VLAN/VRF EM • Support Microsoft Windows Active Directory Application installation Endpoint protection, disk encryption, peripheral control Mobile device management, Printer management RAS Administration SCCM & Lumension • Support Window server (2008, 2012) DNS, DHCP, AIX, RHEL, Centos, Exchange SharePoint PKI SCCM powershell EM • Support Enterprise Storage technologies (EMC VNX, EMC Data Domain, Recoverpoint, (Symantec Netbackup) • Support VMWare ESX, VRealize, VDI, SRM NSX • Support Oracle, Postgres Microsoft SQL server (NoSQL): MongoDB, Couchbase, Reddit Oracle RMAN and PG_basebackup Actian Ingres DB Oracle ASM, ZFS,Oracle Exadata • Support ServiceNow ; Airwatch Mobile Device Management ; IBM Rational Suite of products • Project Management services Work Location The services are to be supported from ONS’ sites primarily at Newport (South Wales) NP10 8XG with some secondary requirements at Titchfield (Hampshire) PO15 and London (though this is minimal) Working Arrangments The team will need to be able to meet the following work arrangements: The ONS service availability hours are 7am to 7pm. The ONS service support hours are 07:30 am to 17:30pm Monday to Friday. Out of hours working is on an ad-hoc basis, driven by project/change demand; During this transition period out of hours working can be assumed as likely, but not guaranteed. The ONS does NOT require on-call for any of its current services. What size team are you looking for for this assignment? We are not looking to determine the size of the team. We have provided the outcomes we are looking for and will elaborate on these outcomes throughout the procurement process in order for suppliers to determine the service offering they believe can deliver the outcomes 2. Please clarify how many cabs of equipment ONS have in these data centers. How many data centers are in total The number of data centers (dedicated) is TWOThe number of racks in these data centers combined is circa 45We have an additional computer room with circa 25 further cabinetsThis EXCLUDES Comms cabinets used throughout the organisation 3. To what extent will ONS require assistance on-boarding new services to BAU? We have a Service Design and Transition team already in place. 4. To what extent will ONS require assistance on-boarding new services to BAU? We have a Service Design and Transition team already in place. 5. Do you require Service Design/Architecture for the interim solution? We have a Service Design and Transition team already in place. 6. To what extent will ONS require assistance exiting legacy services? The is no qualitative answer to this; it is as required hence the t&m rather than fixed price and will be determined on an 'as needs' basis. 7. In what areas will project management services required? Infrastructure Delivery (migration/upgrading) of IT Services 8. Do you require Service Design/Architecture for the Target Operating Model? No 9. What will the supplier’s interaction with the existing team be? On site, face to face on a daily basis in terms of the resources supplied to meet the requirement. 10. How is it envisaged that activities will be handed over i.e. 2nd and 3rd line support? We have a Service Design and Transition team already in place.
