Slurry Acidification

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT REQUIREMENT: The Authority is seeking a three year contract for three repeated field trials to investigate the use of slurry acidification in the UK and establish a robust evidence base. The project will identify and evaluate feasibility, productivity and soil impacts on acidified slurry. This shall include an evaluation of costs, benefits and trade-offs associated with different approaches, as well as the potential for industrial partnership to support such a programme. The Authority is the UK government department responsible for safeguarding our natural environment, supporting our world-leading food and farming industry, and sustaining a thriving rural economy. The overarching policy background supporting this call for research is framed by the Authority’s strategy which sets out the Authority’s goal to make the UK a world-leading food and farming nation and to provide a cleaner and healthier environment benefiting the economy. In addition, the work is required to support planning for UK compliance with ammonia ceilings (which are guidelines only and not currently enforced by legislation).
