Tender description
Research Aims and Objectives The project will gather the evidence to aid decisions about future policy on lead in drinking water by examining possible long term strategies to reduce exposure to lead. Policy and Regulatory Context Both the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA)1 and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA)2 have come to the view that there are no thresholds for the adverse effects of lead on human health. Given the absence of threshold we cannot completely rule out adverse health effects on consumers from exposure to lead via drinking water. The main health concern is about the impact on the IQ of children.
