Summary of the work The interaction designer will be working to refine a prototype based on feedback from users who work as intelligence analysts in police forces. The interaction designer will then work on scaling the product for live and may assist on other LEDS products Specialist role Designer Expected Contract Length 18 Months Latest start date Monday 8 January 2018 Maximum Day Rate Maximum day rate of £625 excl VAT Who Speclialist Work With The specialist will be working as part of the Law Enforcement Digital Services (LEDS) programme which is developing a service to replace the current Police National Database (PND) and Police National Computer (PNC). We are specifically exploring how to replace the service that intelligence staff in all UK Police Forces use to find intelligence at a national level with a new UI supported by modernised search capabilities. What Specialists Work On The specialist will design the user interaction for a new tool for policing intelligence officers. They will work as part of an agile user-led team alongside other designers including content design. Their work will be informed and iterated based on user needs gathered through user research and interaction testing Please note - this is a new requirement and separate from the previously advertised NLEDP 065 Interaction Designer for Police Intelligence role Skills & Experience • Agile Experience • User centred design experience • HTML/CSS knowledge • Experience of working within Government/public sector • Prototyping Experience Nice to Haves • Experience of Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) • Police Domain Knowledge • React experience • HCI Qualification • Accessibility experience Work Location Bernard Wetherill House, 8 Mint Walk, Croydon, CR0 Working Arrangments The specialist must be onsite at least 3 days a week. Please note that this role is deemed to be outside of the HMRC IR35 Regulations. What is the policy regarding the travel expenses? If the specialist needs to travel & accommodate themself to be on site as required, will the expenses be covered? All expenses for this role are covered by the Home Office Expenses policy. As the role is based in Croydon, the Home Office will not pay travel or accommodation expenses to this site. Nor are expenses paid for travel to, or accommodation at any other site within the M25, such as the 2 Marsham Street or Hendon sites. 2. Would you consider a candidate working 3 days per week from home (2 days on site) with proven experience of doing this successfully for a number of years at various Central Government clients please? We have specified a minimum 3 days on site as the team is relatively new to user led design processes and needs to work on fast and frequent iterations with lots of opportunities for idea generation and testing between an agile team. Unfortunately with a minimum of a day a week for agile ceremonies etc, 1 day a week of in person contact will not allow enough face-time for the team to share and iterate designs 3. Under essential skills there is HTML and CSS knowledge, this points towards hand coding, can you confirm this is purely knowledge and not coding experience as with most interaction designers they are not hands on coders? We will expect the designer to be able to create prototypes in HTML/CSS so they need some working knowledge.
