National Strategic Salt Storage Contracts for the North East, North West, and Southern England. Highways England is responsible for managing the National Salt Reserve on behalf of the Department for Transport. Under the current arrangement Highways England stores salt, at five port locations around England: Immingham, Ellesmere, Garston, Avonmouth and Ridham, sites. In the event of a prolonged and severe winter this salt would be made available to Local Highway Authorities. The subject of this procurement is the storage arrangements, stockpile management, and sheeting supply/maintenance, within the North East, North West, and Southern areas of England.
