Tender description

The University requires a 24 hour, 7 day per week security service for 2 years in the first instance for a secure Data Centre facility operated by the University of Cambridge. The University requires a 24 hour, 7 day per week security service for 2 years in the first instance for a secure Data Centre facility operated by the University of Cambridge. 1.2 The University of Cambridge The University of Cambridge is an ancient collegiate university in the East of England. 1.3 The Data Centre Facility A modern, energy efficient Data Centre was constructed by the University of Cambridge in 2014 as part of an ongoing programme of investment in energy and carbon management. The facility is designed to provide a highly efficient and secure Data Centre Service to multiple University Institutions. The Data Centre is situated on the West Cambridge site and occupies a bespoke two storey building of approximately 2 200 square metres. The building mainly houses computer and operational plant equipment with a small number of operational and maintenance support staff. Site access will be restricted to essential staff and contractors required to maintain and operate the computer and plant equipment. 1.4 The Service Required A trained and SIA licensed uniformed officer is required to carry out static security and entry control duties based in the building's security office covering 24 hours per day, 7 days per week including all public holidays. Duties to be carried out would primarily be concerned with the security of the building, particularly external points of entry, monitoring fire and other alarms, flood hazards and minimising the risk of offences against the building and any staff whilst on the premises. Duties will also include the management of Data Hall Cabinet keys, using a Traka system, to ensure only authorised personnel gain access to computer equipment. 1.5 The University is subject to increasing financial pressures and is constantly reviewing Services to achieve greater efficiencies in order to continue to deliver world class standards. It expects the same approach to efficiency identification and delivery from its suppliers. Consequently, it expects successful suppliers to maximise their own efficiency to ensure that prices throughout the life of the contract are as competitive as possible. Tenderers are expected to explain in their bid how they will ensure that on-going prices remain consistently competitive.
