Tender description

A six month contract is needed for a study to review lessons learnt from organic farming in order to explore application of the most valuable of these, where appropriate, to improve sustainability of conventional farms. The study will consider strategies used in organic farming and assess opportunities, practicalities and barriers of translating best practice management techniques from organic to conventional farms. It will also examine potential impacts on farm income, productivity and risk. Defra’s investment in this project will identify organic farming practices that deliver sustainability benefits to conventional farms . It will evaluate, for promising options, costs and benefits of applying techniques to conventional farms, including a review of potential impacts on farm income, productivity and risk implications. This will allow government to identify opportunities to deliver greater sustainability benefits in conventional farming.
