Tender description

The National Library of Wales is seeking a solution to deliver up to 50 TB of digitised video and sound material for viewing in four locations of a new Welsh Broadcast Archive. Each location will have up to a dozen terminals which will be able to search this system. The solution will need to communicate with NLW's other systems including her catalogue, digital archive tape library, digital asset management system, existing workflows and also a new crowdsourcing system for volunteer activity. NLW is open to suggestions of how many systems are necessary to deliver this solution, and how they should be organised or integrated. Subsequent procurement(s) will be based on the understanding gained in this Request for Information. The solution is for a part of a project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, which is currently in it's development phase. The National Library of Wales is seeking a solution to deliver up to 50 TB of digitised video and sound material (based on a deposit of over 2 Pb of master data) for viewing in four locations of a new Welsh Broadcast Archive. Each location will have up to a dozen terminals which will be able to search this system. The solution will need to communicate with NLW's other systems including her catalogue, digital archive tape library, digital asset management system, existing workflows and also a new crowdsourcing system for volunteer activity. NLW is open to suggestions of how many systems are necessary to deliver this solution, for example systems to deliver hub interfaces, integration with the tape library, and a media asset management system can be considered separate systems if it becomes clear that this is the most efficient method of delivering the solution. There is also a small amount of material which will be made available online which is potentially a separate system.
