Tender description
Cancellation notice — Network Rail's current Barrier Machine specification (BR843) was written in 1991 and barrier technology has moved on significantly over time, as have the materials that are commonly used. Barrier Machines are the number 1 reliability issue at level crossings. The barrier boom and barrier machine power pack are two of the prominent reliability issues and requirements for theses are being updated as part of a technology agnostic performance specification which has been developed to modernise the design, mitigate known reliability issues and allow other barrier machines technologies and materials to be considered. Notice of cancellation of tender. Notice of cancellation — Network Rail has developed a new performance specification to cover their requirements for Barriers and Barrier Machines at protected level crossings (Manually Controlled Barrier series of crossings — MCB, MCB-CCTV and MCB-OD). Network Rail will be looking for a supplier or suppliers to provide barrier machines that will deliver the requirements of the new specification from 2018 onwards. Based on Network Rail's forecast for Control Period 6 (CP6), the 5-year period beginning in 2019, volumes of protected crossings are expected to be circa 75/year which equates to around 300 barrier machines per annum. Notice of cancellation of tender.
