The Health Board are looking for Providers with capacity and capability to deliver innovative, high quality, value for money and patient-centred clinical orthodontic services in a primary care dental setting. It is expected that these clinical services will be delivered in an environment that offers an excellent patient experience and offers standards of care that are comparable with the very best providers of NHS primary dental care services. The key objectives of the Procurement are: — To enhance the quality of orthodontic care services available to patients; — To provide choice and good access for patients; — To reduce reliance on secondary care providers for Orthodontic assessments and treatments where these can be safely delivered in a primary care setting; — To deliver affordable and Value for Money (VfM) NHS orthodontic services. The Health Board are looking for Providers with capacity and capability to deliver innovative, high quality, value for money and patient-centred clinical orthodontic services in a primary care dental setting within the Cardiff North area for this Lot. Specifically the Provider will be expected: — To assess and treat patients up to the age of 18 who meet the criteria set out in the contract and who have an IOTN of 3.6 to 5. — To promote and protect health by, for example, reducing smoking and promoting oral health messages i.e. brushing teeth. Where applicable the Provider should assist patients to improve their oral health in order to commence orthodontic treatment. — Provide support to general dental practitioners on appropriate referrals to reduce waste in the system. Clinicians engaged in the leadership and treatment planning of this provision must be on the GDC specialist list for Orthodontics. The practice should, however, be committed to the development of a skill mix in the practice and utilising the experience and skills of different members of the dental team, such as orthodontic therapists and extended duty dental nurses. Ideally Providers should be able to offer extended opening hours to ensure the service is convenient and available for all patients. This could involve evening or weekend working.
