Tender description

Birmingham has 410 700 households and is home to in excess of 1 100 000 residents. Birmingham City Council collects around 500 000 tonnes of municipal waste (including 50 000 tonnes of garden waste) from residents and businesses each year. The city is expected to grow by a further 50 000 households by 2031, adding a further 60 000 tonnes to the amount managed by the City. Birmingham City Council will shortly commence a procurement process in order to secure the provision of the following services: — the treatment and disposal of residual waste, — the management of waste transfer stations and household recycling services, — the processing of a range of recyclable materials such as dry mixed recycling, paper and card, garden waste, — other associated services. The Council has not at this stage decided upon the packaging of the services for the purposes of the procurement.
