Tender description

The University of Southampton has a requirement to procure a high precision three-axial translation system. This should include a fully assembled translation system, granite gantry, dedicated motion controller, linear amplifiers, all necessary cables, delivery and installation of the units, software package for interfacing with translation system via G-code and GUI, an operating manual and a 12 month warranty. This requirement is for two processes which are as follows. i) XZ-Theta System Similar in motion to a DVD mastering machine. The theta axis rotates and a spiral or circular track is written to a silica glass substrate held on the wafer chuck. After 1 complete revolution has been made the X axis steps by 20um within 1 revolution of the rotary and then writing continues in the next 20 micron spaced track. The Z axis is used to focus the optics onto the glass substrate. The 4-coordinate mechanical system is designated for positioning of a tool head relative to a cylindrical optical disk of fused silica with external diameter of 140 mm and thickness of 4 mm or other plate of glass/crystal with sizes not exceeding 100x10x5 mm (workpiece). The optical disk should be mounted and held on a rotary stage (R-coordinate) which rotates with a constant (slowly varying) speed, and the system should provide start-stop positioning of the tool head relative the optical disk in other 3 translation coordinates (X and Z –vertical, perpendicular to the disk surface). Software should provide movement pattern with parameters defined by the current specification. Position Synchronised Output signal should be synchronized with an external mode-locking laser operating at repetition rates of 100 — 1000 kHz (for R and X axes). The tool head consist of 1) objective lens, focusing a laser beam on the surface and inside the optical disk, 2) beam splitter, 3) CCD, 4) power meter head. Using a laser to write pulses into a glass substrate it's required to place 10 overlapping pulses at the same position, within 20 % of each other based on position. Laser spot size is 3um. ii) XYZ System For this process the XY axes is used to write a square pattern on the substrate where dynamic performance is required as per the specification below. The substrate is held by a vacuum chuck on top of the XY stages. The Z axes is mounted on the granite bridge and will be used for focusing. The granite bridge should provide 10 extra custom inserts for mounting optics. The XY move in a raster scan pattern where the dynamic movements are performed by the Y axes and a square pattern is written with the laser. Position Synchronised Output signal should be synchronized with an external mode-locking laser operating at repetition rates of 100 — 1000 kHz (for X and Y axes).
